Ferdinand Magellan and Panglima Awang

Panglima Awang

Panglima Awang was a resident of Malacca country. When Malacca was invaded for the first time by the Portuguese that were led by Alfonso de' Albuquerque in 1511, he fought for his kingdom for about 7 days under Sultan Mahmud's rule. After a lot of bloodshed, the Portuguese won the war and they took some Malacca citizens as hostages, among them was Panglima Awang. Panglima Awang became a slave for Ferdinand Magellan's ship as well as an interpreter. Panglima Awang was a black skinned man. When Portuguese army found Panglima Awang, they wanted to sell him, but while they were on their way to Philipinnes they became close to Panglima Awang and decided not to sell him in the end. Furthermore, Panglima Awang were been convert by Ferdinand Magellan on the ship. Panglima Awang is the first pesron who went around the world with Ferdinand Magellan ship. His journey around the world was eventful.

Ferdinand Magellan

Panglima Awang became a fighter and interpreter for Ferdinand Magellan. He could also be considered a bodyguard for Ferdinand Magellan. One day, Ferdinand Magellan betrayed Alfonso de Albuquerque because he wanted power and wealth. Ferdinand Magellan argued with Alfonso de Albuquerque and decided to leave Spain to fight on his own. He brought along his ship named it, Blue Pearl and his hostage, Panglima Awang. He decided to get power and wealth with the help of Panglima Awang. They went to France to seek help to invade Portugal. When they arrived in France, Ferdinand met his friend, who was the prince of France. Ferdinand asked for fuel, war equipment, and seventy men as the crew of the ship. In return, he promised to give 1 ton of gold to the King of France.

After seven months of voyage, they headed to Johor where they discovered it was rich with gold and tin. They invaded Johor, there was three days of bloodshed, and finallly, Ferdinand Magellan. They built their camp near the mine to look for gold and tin. After days of mining, they finally found gold. They planned to stay there for a month before returning to France.

When they returned to France, rich in gold and tin, Ferdinand fulfilled his promise to the king. The King of France then offered Ferdinand and Panglima Awang to be France citizens, but they refused. They wanted to be pirates and take vengeance over Portugal. King of France found good in them and as a reward, he gave them fifty crew ships and fifty fighters also offering them safety. Ferdinand was grateful to the King of France and promised he would protect French waters.

After that, Ferdinand and Panglima Awang sailed to Spain to seek help in invading Portugal. The prince of Spain refused to help them because Spain of its diplomatic relationship with Portugal. They planned to kill the prince of Spain and take over the country. Ferdinand and Awang stayed in Spain while waiting for weapons from France.

After a month of planning and scheming, they attacked the castle. They managed to breakthrough the palace walls easily, killing all the guards behind it. The killed the prince who pleaded for his life and took over the country. They trained all the boys and men to fight and shoot. The King of Portugal heard news of all that was happening. Portugal prepared their army to fight against Ferdinand. Alfonso de' Albuquerque also prepared himself because he knew that Ferdinand wanted to revenge on him.

Then when the moment arrived, Ferdinand attacked Portugal with no mercy. The war went on for a week and both sides refused to surrender. Ferdinand called for help rom France. In two days, the ships of France arrived at Portugal. Ferdinand's crew attacked from the east and France attacked from the south. Ferdinand was killed by a soldier in the war but Panglima Awang continued Ferdinand's fight. With help from France, Awang won the fight.

After the war, Ferdinand was buried in France with a full of honour. Panglima Awang returned to his homeland to live the rest of his days.

Television

When television was created, the amount of viewers that went to the theatres started falling. The theatres then came up with new gimmicks to recapture it's audience. One of the gimmicks used was 3D movies which remain popular until this day.

I think the convenience of television was the main reason it gained so many viewers. Although the television equipment was expensive, it could be watched whenever the owner wants to. Furthermore, movies were repeatedly shown so one could make time to watch it in the comforts of home.

Today, the television industry has evolved majorly. In the past, television viewers followed the tv programme made by the channels. However, today, with the miraculous time-shifting function, viewers could watch a tv programme whenever they wanted. For example, Astro Beyond. I had friends who had two astro subscriptions before the launching of Astro Beyond, all just to satisfy the wants of every member of the family. The kids could watch cartoons, while the parents watch the news in another room.

I think it is just a matter of time before television goes totally on the web. There is even live television-streaming available at the moment. But, the one thing television has not overcome, portability. Maybe one day there would be portable hologram televisions attached to our wrists, like bracelets.

All this, proves that technology today is rapidly changing, maybe just as quickly as we update our status Facebook.

My Dream

Dreams occur inside a person's mind. Dreams are like the paintings made up of images, emotions, and ideas in a person's mind. I am very sure everyone has a different dream and they will try to fulfill their dream. However, dream dies when someone become older. On top of that, dreams can be wild, crazy and may seem impossible to achieve. For some reason i find that dreams make people motivated to strive for the impossible.

The biggest, craziest dream I had in mind is creating a portable game device with a hologram screen. This is already the 21st century, the era of touchscreen gadgets. I am sure the future would surprise us with a new technology. I am pretty sure that Playstation is launching something incredible soon. In future if i have a chance, i will make this dream a reality. I have already thought of the features and the price. The features of the gadget will be the same as the Playstation 3 but more enhanced.

There will be: -It will be named Portable Garena Boy (PGB)
                     - USB port that connects to internet
                     - Coloured HD hologram screen
                     - Wireless access
                     - Simcard and memory card slot
                     - Beats by Dr. Dre for the speaker
                     - It could work as a computer as well

I will advertise my PGB (Portable Garena Boy) on radio and web page. The reason i chose radio and web page is because it targets audience which are adults and teenagers. Adults often listen to the radio while commuting to and fro from work. I have interviewed some of my relatives and they say that the always listen to advertisements aired on the radio and google more about it later. Same goes to teenagers, they also drive often and surf the internet a lot. This is the reason I think these mediums are brilliant ways to advertise.

Basically, this device is a mixture of a handphone and game console.

There is another dream that I am enthusiastic about. It is to be like my father. My father is a businessman and i am proud of him because he never loses his spirit. He is a hardworking person who gives me inspiration everyday to become a better person and work harder. Because of this two things, i have become more motivated to excel in the future.

Are books still needed by 21'st century people?

Book on screen or book on print??

Books are needed by everyone especially children. I am saying this because when children read books their vocabulary is expanded. Reading books also regularly stimulates children's imaginations. Furthermore, books  could replace television as an entertainment source for children.

Since the 21st century, there were many arguments about the relevance of books. There are a lot  of opinions about this issue. Books used to be the only source of knowledge and information. For "bookaholics", books are like their best friend. However, people no longer use books this century. In past, books were our friend while we waiting a bus, while we waited on airplanes and also during free time. But today, we are engrossed with Ipad, Iphone or Android applications. We use our electronic devices as companions of all time. In this globalization era, people are more interested in the touch n go then the traditional flipping of pages. As stated in The New York Times, do school libraries still need print? Or should they change reading methods to web pages? I am certain that it will happen one day. The new generation will not be able to imagine the smell of a new book as they flip its pages or how it feels between your fingers when you're engrossed in it. Personally, I will choose books over e-books. I can read books all day long whereas starring at the screen for too long could get me a headache. Besides, not all book are available in electronic version, and also the electronic versions are not suitable to read in bed (which one of the best place to read) although the electronic version is still awesome and convenient in different ways.

After a litttle bit of reading, I find that people still read Shakespeare in this century. This is because of Shakespeare's knack of using quotable quotes in his plays and also plays his touch on timeless themes such as love, friendship and vengeance. That is what people want to read because they are able imagine vividly how Shakespeare illustrates it.

Finally, i could say that even thought we are in the 21st century, we still need books as our reading source because electronics versions are still not completely reliable.

Magazines is a hole of information and entertaiment

Different magazines have different detail information, for example, social issues, celebrities, lifestyle, food-making tips, health, sitcoms, comedies, sports, landscaping, and many more. Examples of such magazines are Playboy, Maire Claire, TopGear, Football, Seventeen, and others. Magazines have their specific readers and they publish a new issue every month. People who like to read magazines constantly tend to be well informed in that particular matter.

There are a wide array of magazines which a reader could choose from. Magazines provide different insights on specific matters. Magazines do not only provide credible information to its readers but functions as an advertising channel for producers of products to reach out to potential buyers. Besides, you could read magazines anywhere, in the airplanes, hotels, offices and even saloons. Companies that are involved in the service field subscribe ti magazines to entertain their guest while they wait. For example, saloons, dentists even eating outlets. Other companies subscribe to magazines because they want their employees to aware of the latest establishment in the company's industry. People read magazine because they want to find out about new products that are being launched. Magazines have a great potential for advertising because product producers are able to reach their target audience easily.

As for myself, I always buy TopGear and FourFourTwo Magazines. TopGear lets me know how to upgrade my car to increase its speed and also to let me know about the new car models released. FourFourTwo on the other hand, tells me information regarding the football world. It publishes rumors and player transfers in football and it is my main source to check for tournaments, about football or futsal, that will be held in Malaysia. Magazine is one of the best source to entertain ourselves during our free time.

Shots with angles, not randomly

A picture needs an angle, a photographer needs creativity, colours need a tone. These three things are needed to produce a perfect picture or video. Why do we need creativity? Why do we need angles? Why we need colours? We need all this because a picture can inspire human beings. A picture does not only freeze a situation but tells us about what happened at a place and shows us God's and human's creation. Sometimes, a person will get inspiration from a relaxing picture. A relaxing picture needs an angle that is really compatible with the situation.

These are some of the pictures I have taken.

Extreme Long Shot: The view of Putrajaya from PICC.

Long Shot: Sunset at Port Dickson.

Medium Shot: The view of KLCC at night.

Different pictures require different angles and techniques. Food photography for example, has five techniques of angles that I have learnt. First, is ''Head-on Zen''. This angle requires the food (subject) to be at the centre of the frame and the props must be minimalized to get a great picture. Second, is ''Lost in space''. This angle functions to make the subject look more alive. The food (subject) will be placed onto a white surface to centre all the attention to the subject. Third, is ''Tilt Towards''. The camera is angled to the right, so three quarters of subject can be seen. Fourth, is ''Diagonal''. I am sure this is the most familiar angle to photographers. This angle works by turning the camera diagonally so the subject starts in one corner and ends in the opposite corner, breaking the space diagonally. The last angle is "Above". The camera is positioned directly above and centered. This angle produces a very good graphic look.

Moreover, not only pictures need angles, it applies to movies, it needs angles too. After all, the angles are the same. But, how you make the angle work with your creativity is the way to produce a unique picture.

Although i know some about camera angles, yet i still learn a lot from other photographers and i try to mix up what i learn and also what i have to make a better creativity and idea. Beside that, i also teach beginner photographers through my facebook. We also discuss a lot of things about angles and creativity through email as well

The weapon of mass distraction

Media changes our perception towards the real world through the cultivation theory- how we develop something through heavy television viewing.

Television is one of the most powerful media in the world because they can attract all levels of society in the world. Heavy television viewers are more likely to live in their fantasy lives compared to their real lives. Everything that they saw in television will be developed into their real lives. As an evidence there is a story about a kid wearing a spider man outfit who died because he jumped down from a building. What do you guys think about it? Why did the kid jumped down from a building?! Yes, it is because of television effect. Television has become a new 'religion' to its heavy viewers. Once a while, people are holy with their religion and believe it is their priority but nowadays, television has made a big impact to its audience and they get addicted to television so much that it becomes their 'second religion'.

Television addiction is not a good thing and  it will affect our lifestyle and behaviour. But, what is shown on television is related to our real life, this is called resonance.

NewsPAPER or i-news?

In this era globalization, people changed, their vision are more foresight, they think more critically and they also use more up to date gadgets. There is a lot of gadgets that can we use to read a news. Ipad, Iphone, Itouch, galaxy tab and many others more devices that are provide us to read news and information around the world. We all in 2012, we can have anything we want easily. Such as if we want to know about the latest news we can just use our finger and with just one click, all the information will appear on our screen. Still, why does people choose a newspaper to read a news? Why they still want to walk or drive to shop and buy a newspaper? Today, i would like to argue why people still willing to buy a newspaper even though we have a lot of gadgets is more useful.

This is a new Ipad by Apple

This is a print newspaper by Daily News

You guys can see the different? Yeah Ipad is much more thin than the newspaper. The reason why people are more interested in reading newspaper is because newspaper is more cheaper than Ipad. Hahahaha yeah its true! The second reason is because for the older people, they are more likely to feel the paper of the newspaper. Its makes them feel the excitement when reading the newspaper. Rather than using Ipad, for them, its complicated because they feel more easier by flipping from one page to another. Before, one of my teacher has told me, online news will update two times a day than a newspaper and they give you a most recent news what is happening today, but in my point of view, who will read a news late night? Its has been decade people read a news in the morning while have a cup of tea or maybe in the middle of the road stuck in the traffic jam or maybe in their office. So it is just the same thing if we wait until the next morning and buy a newspaper because we still get the latest news.

give me the clue, i'll give you the answer! Tabooooo!!

Heyya peoples! this is my seventh post for my media appreciation class. For this post, i have to talk about my experience about last week activity in the class. You guys know what is Taboo? Its the most popular education game among teenagers and i found it very interesting! For those who already familiar or been through with this game i am very sure you guys have enjoyed this game a lot.

First of all i want you guys know that this game is an education game. As an example, millionair it teach us how to become a good investor. Same as this game, it teach us how to become a good sender or in malay its call 'penyampai'. It teach us how to send a message in a good way to a receiver understand it proper. It is just like what 'Wilbur Schramm' (father of communication) said a sender or source must use a language that the receiver would understand so the receiver will give some feedback from it. From my experience, this game teach me how to find another words to describe something to tell to others. We cannot use the words that have been given in the card so we have to think more critically to describe it and we only have 60 seconds to do it. We also have to give a easiest word to our friend to guess the answer. I have been a sender once when i play with my classmates together in the class and i found myself hard to describe a word 'G-String'!! I have plenty of ideas what i'm gonna to say about it but i don't know why my mouth can't pronounce it -.- its a stupidest mistake i ever made! i wish i have second chance :(

Besides, this game teach me how to understand more better about something. What i'm trying to say hear is as in the game, i have to guess what my friend talk about so its makes me think more harder and faster. I feel like i have to understand what the sender trying to tell me even the message is disturbed by semantic noise and give an immediate feedback. Furthermore, taboo have make my thought process improved by make me think outside the box and more faster. In my opinion, if we use to play this games many times, my thought process will become better and better.

Moreover, taboo also teach me to work together with my brain as well. As what my lecturer have said before, sometimes we know what it is about and we have idea about it but we cannot explain and sometimes we find hard to talk about it. So this game teach me how to work mouth and brain together. Hence, i have gain a lot of positive experiences from this game and i feel happy when everybody enjoys and involve in taboo.

Secret Meaning about French Film ^.^

Yeah i'm sure you guys must be asking why i'm writing about this stupid film with a ridiculous picture of this film. Just to let you know, my lecturer show us this movie and order us to think and understand about this movie. As what i can say, this movie is teaching us about what is life and showing us about ignorance. Dominique Pinon as Louison is a plumber, lover and also use to be a clown in this movie. He from Spain and came along to France because he found a job as a maintenance man at an apartment owned by Jean-Claude Dreyfus as a clapet. Pinon use to be a clown once a while but since his friend dead, he quit from being a clown at the circus and started finding a new job. While he was working there, he had fall in love with Karin Viard, the clapet's daughter. The clapet is a murderer and a horrible person. He wants to control everyone in the apartment. He kills anyone he doesn't like and who ever messed up with him. He use a postman to tells him what is happening in the city and any important information. He then wanted to kill the maintenance man but then his daughter protect that guy.

Here is the movie trailer, if you guys want to watch the full movie, click here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV-KfHGGTrgDelicatessen

In my point of view, In what our life related to this movie, in our life we only stand alone, and many people try to attack and pulled us down. But we have to stand still and go through our life. No matter how hard we fall, we have to stand and fight for it. Furthermore, we have to justice to everybody and respect people. We must not selfish and accept people for who they are. In other hand, love is not what we can buy at a shop or even a store, love is what comes naturally. Love is beautiful, some people said that love is pain and love is blind. In my opinion, love is an awesome feeling that we have in our heart and love will become beautiful if we know the right way to create it.
